Game Information

Welcome to our NFL confidence spread game. This game is being run by Wesley Terwey and Erik Landriz.

The following is a quick rundown of how this game works:

Each week of the season, you will have to pick the winner of NFL games. However, instead of picking just the straight winner of the game, you will have to take into account a value called "the spread."

The spread is a Vegas bet on how big of a win the game will be. Each week on Tuesday afternoons, I will take an average spread from betting sites (rounded to the nearest 0.5 point) and put those games up to be picked. Within each game, the favorite of the game will have the spread under their logo. (See the examples; for example, in the first example, the Patriots are favored over the Steelers by 7.5 points.) The spread counts against the favorite's score in the end result. So, if a game ends 20-17 with the favorite winning, but the spread is -4.5, the game against the spread was actually 15.5-17. In other words, the favorite did not cover the spread and would be considered the loser.

There are two main regions on the Picks page. The top is the Pick Grid, while below are the Unmade Picks. When a pick is made in the Unmade Picks, it will move into a place on the Pick Grid corresponding to the points you put on it. If you want a game to move back from the Pick Grid to the Unmade Picks, click the X button in the upper right corner of the game in question.

Besides picking the winner against the spread in games, you will also have to choose how confident you are in each match when you pick. These are the numbers below the games. Each week, you will be able to use each value (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) three times. If there are not enough games to fill up all possible point values, you are allowed to skip any values you wish.

If there are more games than possible points, you do not have to pick all the games. However, starting in the 2018 season, we have introduced the Pick 6. The Pick 6 allows a player to pick the 16th game in a week (after picking the other 15) for a 6 point bid. However, this bid is a full wager. You will get 6 points for getting it correct, but will lose 6 points for missing it.

Games will need to be picked 30 minutes before the game starts. Game results will be entered as the games end (depending on the schedules of Erik and/or Wes). Standings will be automatically updated.

There is no cost to play in this game. It is all being done for pride (currently, at least).

Hope everyone has some fun with this over the course of the season. We will be constantly improving the site, so watch for little improvements all over the place. Feel free to let us know of any bugs or improvements!

Pick Information

Above is an example case of a partially picked week. Any games that are finished or have started will be in a different color and disabled.

At the top portion of the page is the pick grid. A correct pick will be colored green; an incorrect pick will be colored red. Any game currently started will be colored yellow. Any other game not started will be blue, with an X in its upper-right corner. To remove one of these from the grid to the unpicked games below, click the X.

On the bottom portion of the page are games not yet picked for the week. Any game that has already started will be blued-out. All other games are able to be picked still; however, point values may be disabled if you have had three picks of that value around made. Choose your team and your wager from here. The game will move into the pick grid above from there.

In the pick grid, a game will highlight your pick, the information about the other team and the spread, and then the final score (if completed).
